The national men’s indoor hockey team’s quest for a first win at the 2025 Men’s FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup in Porec, Croatia continued to be elusive as they suffered a 2-6 loss to Argentina in the fourth to 12th place classification match at the Zatika Sport Centre today.
This is the team’s second defeat at the hands of the Argentinians, following their first loss in their Group B match on Tuesday.
Argentina took the lead in today’s match, scoring their first goal in the last minute of the first quarter through a penalty stroke by Joaquin Gonzalez, and then added three field goals in the second quarter, courtesy of Gaston Rodriguez (13th minute), Facundo Navarro (15th minute), and Santiago Moron (16th minute).
In the third quarter, Rodriguez scored again, before Malaysia finally got their first goal through Muhammad Ashran Hamsani in the 25th minute. Malaysia scored their second goal in the final quarter, through Muhammad Izham Azhar in the 39th minute, but Argentina was not finished, scoring their sixth and final goal through Juan Eleicegui in the final minute of the match.
The national team will now play in the 11th to 12th classification match, ensuring that they will not win a medal at the tournament.
