Deepavali Celebrations: A Four-Day Break for Hindu Civil Servants and Students of Manpower Institutes
Government Acknowledges Hindu Festival
The public services department (JPA) has announced that Hindu civil servants will be granted a four-day break during the upcoming Deepavali festival. According to a recent circular, Hindu civil servants may take one day of unrecorded leave before or after Deepavali, which will be celebrated on October 26, allowing for a break from Wednesday to Saturday or Thursday to Sunday. This unrecorded leave will also apply to state civil services, statutory bodies, and local governments, subject to the approval of the civil servants’ superiors.
No Work for Manpower Institute Students
Not only will Hindu civil servants be getting a break, but students at all training institutes of the manpower department will also be enjoying a four-day Deepavali weekend. Human Resources Minister Steven Sim announced that an additional holiday will be given on either Wednesday, October 30, or Friday, November 1, depending on the state. According to Sim, the additional holiday is a result of the large number of Indian students at these institutes, with 1,500 students currently enrolled at ILJTM’s in the country.
Students to Attend Replacement Classes
Despite the extra day off, students at manpower institutes will still need to attend replacement classes when they return. According to Minster Sim, students will be expected to make up for the lost classes to ensure they do not fall behind in their studies.
