Malaysia-Argentina Ties Poised to Reach New Heights

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 Jan (Bernama) – As Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship, Malaysian Ambassador to Argentina, Nur Azman Rahim, has expressed confidence that the ties between Malaysia and Argentina are not only on the right track but are poised to reach new heights.

A Strong and Growing Relationship

In his New Year message, delivered entirely in Spanish, Nur Azman reflected on the milestones achieved by Malaysia and Argentina over the past year, highlighting significant progress in political, economic, and socio-cultural collaboration between the two nations.

Economic Cooperation

On economic achievements, Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to Argentina’s energy aspirations, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Petronas’ operations in the country. Malaysia is also preparing to welcome Aerodyne, a new Malaysian investor, which will soon enter the Argentine market, bringing innovative solutions in the field of drone technology.

Halal Cooperation

With Malaysia’s Halal Certification being premium and globally recognised, the ambassador said halal cooperation remained steadfast. This was exemplified by the impressive participation of 125 Argentine companies in the Halal Seminar: Export to Malaysia, held in September in Buenos Aires. An Argentinian company also participated in this year’s MIHAS and the Global Halal Summit in Kuala Lumpur, underscoring the shared commitment to advancing Halal standards globally.

Strengthening Economic Relations

The Malaysia chapter of the MERCOSUR-ASEAN Chamber of Commerce (MACC) was launched in Kuala Lumpur, reflecting the strong interest of business communities in both regions to explore and expand collaborative opportunities. Malaysia’s economic engagements in Argentina through PETRONAS, IJM Corporation, and Seri Inderajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd position Malaysia as one of the largest investors in the country, with investments totalling more than US$15 billion. Total trade between Malaysia and Argentina in 2023 amounted to US$1.6 billion.

Conclusion

As Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship, it is clear that the ties between Malaysia and Argentina are not only strong but also growing. With a focus on economic cooperation, halal certification, and mutual understanding, the two nations are poised to reach new heights in 2024 and beyond.
