Investigation into Deadly Crash Near Ayer Keroh Remains Incomplete
Puspakom Submits Findings, But Tyre Central to Investigation Remains Missing
Puspakom has submitted its findings on a recent deadly crash in Melaka to the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) for further action. However, the inspection remains incomplete as the dislodged lorry tyre central to the investigation could not be located.
Puspakom’s CEO, Mahmood Razak Bahman, said the report only covered the inspection of the vehicles involved. “The inspection and investigation that we conducted for Miros are incomplete even though the report was sent to the authorities today,” he said at a press conference at Puspakom Shah Alam today.
“This is because we could not find the tyre that was dislodged. Puspakom was unable to inspect the (condition of the) tyre, which should have been sent with the vehicles,” he added.
Background of the Crash
On December 23, a five-vehicle crash occurred on the North-South Expressway near Ayer Keroh, resulting in the deaths of seven people and injuring 33 others. Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook ordered the road transport department (JPJ) to investigate the incident on December 24.
Loke also directed JPJ to take appropriate action against the trailer lorry and bus involved in the collision. It was reported that a detached tyre from a lorry caused the tour bus to lose control, swerve into the opposite lane, and collide with the trailer lorry, resulting in the fatal accident.
Fatalities
The seven fatalities comprised three men, three women, and a baby girl.
Conclusion
The investigation into the deadly crash near Ayer Keroh remains incomplete due to the missing tyre. Puspakom has submitted its findings to Miros, but the report only covers the inspection of the vehicles involved. The investigation will continue once the missing tyre is located and inspected.
