SHAH ALAM – Police have confirmed that a senior officer from Bukit Aman was involved in a fatal accident that claimed the life of a health clinic staff member at Kilometer 32, Jalan Klang–Teluk Intan, on the evening of December 31.
The victim, a 57-year-old man, was reportedly struck by a Perodua Ativa SUV driven by the officer, causing him to be thrown into a small ditch where he died at the scene.
Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, stated that the officer was on leave during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash. He also revealed that the accident may have been caused by microsleep while driving, as suggested by a viral video.
“A urine test was conducted, and the results came back negative. However, further investigations are being carried out by the traffic unit to determine the next course of action,” he said during a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters today.
Police have also confirmed gathering statements from witnesses at the scene and obtaining evidence from dashboard camera footage and CCTV recordings from nearby locations.
“The police are committed to conducting a transparent and fair investigation. If the officer is found guilty under the Road Transport Act, appropriate action will be taken against him,” he added.
Datuk Hussein assured that the case will be referred to the public prosecutor as soon as the investigation is completed. “The priority is to ensure all evidence is meticulously gathered so that justice can be served,” he further stated.
This incident has sparked sorrow among the public, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again in the future.
