Must Read

Dato’ Paramasivam Arunachalam, a name synonymous with unwavering dedication and commitment in the fight against crime, is a figure who has left a profound impact on law enforcement. Known for his firm stance against criminal activities, Dato’ Paramasivam’s influence as the former Deputy Chief Police Officer of Perak has garnered recognition not only within the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) but also among the community he served.

Born and raised in Ipoh, Perak, Dato’ Paramasivam’s journey began when he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Diploma in Education in 1979. After some time in teaching, he moved into psychological assessment within the health sector, specifically dealing with mental health patients. Eventually, he discovered his true calling in law enforcement. His early years with the police force were focused on the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where he honed his investigative skills and became renowned for his effectiveness in conducting raids, arrests, and prosecutions.

A significant moment in his career was his relentless efforts in combating gang crime. Dato’ Paramasivam earned a reputation for his ability to dismantle criminal networks, often forcing gang members into hiding without the need for police pursuit. His courageous and strategic actions in dismantling criminal syndicates were key factors in reducing the presence of dangerous groups in society.

His work was not limited to traditional policing, but also included applying his psychological expertise and intelligence gathering to better understand and address the root causes of criminal behavior. His dedication was widely recognized, and in 2007, he was awarded the Darjah Paduka Tuanku Jaafar (DPTJ), which conferred the title ‘Dato’ from the Yang Di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. This was followed by another prestigious award, the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP), in 2011, conferred by the Sultan of Pahang.

As Deputy Chief Police Officer of Perak, Dato’ Paramasivam played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the entire state, earning the respect of both colleagues and the public. His expertise and leadership were further recognized when he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in 2013.

Today, his legacy continues to inspire many, with calls for the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Minister of Home Affairs to seek his advice on ways to reduce crime in Malaysia. Dato’ Paramasivam’s knowledge, gained from years of experience in the field and his psychological insights into understanding criminal behavior, makes him an invaluable resource in modern policing strategies.

It is not just him—there are many others who have contributed significantly during his tenure. It is hoped that a special team will be formed to gather advice from senior figures, especially former IGPs, to work together on reducing crime in Malaysia.

We hope that the IGP and the Minister of Home Affairs will consult Dato’ Paramasivam for his insights on ways to reduce crime in Malaysia, as his contributions to law enforcement are unparalleled.
