Puchong, Selangor – Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan, the Editor-in-Chief of Ottrangknews and activist, has called on the Health Minister and YB Yeo Bee Yin, the Member of Parliament for Puchong, to take immediate action against the misuse of the title ‘Dr’ by an Ayurvedic practitioner in Puchong, who has been involved in a major controversy. The practitioner, who refers to himself as Dato’ Seri Dr., claims to have the ability to treat various diseases, including critical-stage kidney disease, through Ayurvedic treatments.
Reports indicate serious concerns after the family of a patient alleged that their mother passed away after receiving treatment at the practitioner’s clinic. Despite spending over RM8,000 on treatment for stage 5 kidney disease, the woman showed no signs of recovery and eventually passed away. This incident has raised alarms about the misuse of the ‘Dr’ title by unqualified individuals and fraudulent practices through social media and clinics operating throughout Malaysia.
Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan emphasized the need for the government to take swift action, as this practitioner has been operating for a long period and has profited significantly from patients who were unaware of the deception. He also urged the government to prevent the situation from continuing, as it could damage the reputation of Malaysia’s healthcare system, which should be of world-class standard.
“The government needs to act immediately to stop this fraud. If allowed to persist, it will tarnish the image of our healthcare system,” said Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan.
He further suggested that the authorities investigate and freeze the practitioner’s bank accounts, as many less-educated individuals, particularly from the Indian community, have fallen victim to this fraud.
YB Yeo Bee Yin, who currently represents the Puchong constituency, is urged to call for the Ministry of Health (KKM), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) to take strict action by investigating the involved clinics to ensure no more patients are deceived.
Malaysians are urged to report to the authorities if they know or have been victims of this scam, so swift action can be taken to prevent further deception. The public is also advised to be cautious when choosing healthcare practitioners and to always verify their background and qualifications before seeking treatment.
