Issue of Fraud Masked as ‘Ayurveda’ Treatment: Delayed Action by Subang Jaya City Council Enforcement and Allegations of Corruption Hindering Action

Must Read

Serdang, Malaysia – The issue of fraud involving ‘ayurveda’ treatment by a fake doctor claiming the title of ‘Datuk Seri’ operating in several states including Selangor, Johor, Perak, and Penang is becoming a growing concern after going viral on social media. Authorities and local enforcement officers seem to have only acted after the issue gained public attention.

Initially, no clear action was taken against the medical center offering treatments without valid licenses or recognition from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM). Checks revealed that the so-called ‘ayurveda’ doctor was offering health services without proper authorization in Puchong, as well as in several other locations like Johor, Perak, and Penang.

Although local authorities such as the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) confirmed a recent raid, some are questioning why no action was taken sooner against the premises. MBSJ also confirmed that the premises did not have the proper licenses to offer beauty and health services.

Sources have stated that the raid only occurred after the issue went viral on social media, raising questions about the transparency and effectiveness of local enforcement authorities. Was there possible abuse of power or bribery that caused local authorities to delay action?

According to Serdang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner A A Anbalagan, an investigation was launched after posts about the fake doctor went viral. The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the 2017 Act on Awards-Related Offenses, which carries a penalty of up to three years in prison for using unrecognized awards.

However, some parties are calling for a deeper investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) regarding potential corruption influencing the delay in action. Since the incident went viral on social media, many reports have claimed that local authorities’ actions seem to have been influenced by external factors hindering the progress of the investigation.

In a recent development, a woman claimed her mother, who suffered from chronic kidney disease, sought treatment from the fake doctor for six months, only to pass away after spending approximately RM10,000 on the treatment. This report has made the public more upset about the authorities’ slow response to handling this issue.

Based on social media monitoring, the suspect openly claimed to cure chronic kidney disease through their treatments, and most of the patients were believed to be from the Indian community. Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan has urged the authorities not to act only after the issue became viral, but to conduct further investigations in a fair and transparent manner to ensure that no abuse of power or external influence occurs in this case.
