PUTRAJAYA: A major question has emerged regarding the integrity and accountability of HRDCorp (Human Resources Development Corporation), which is managed by an individual who is alleged to have suspicious political connections and questionable qualifications. According to reports, this individual is said to have been appointed by a political party and entrusted with the responsibility of distributing tens of thousands of ringgit each week to certain political entities.
What is even more shocking is the claim that this individual lacks the relevant educational qualifications or experience to hold such a position. However, his contract was extended on the grounds that HRDCorp is a primary source of funds for certain political parties.
The public has also been informed of a practice believed to exist within HRDCorp, where skill training providers are forced to pay a ‘tribute’ of 30% in order to secure training contracts. This action indicates the presence of a corruption mechanism within the agency, with HRDCorp reportedly paying an advance of 30% to training providers as part of a corrupt practice that should not be allowed to continue.
Additionally, the individual in question is believed to have proxies in several training companies, managed by his cousin, who is said to be a foreign national. Among the well-known training companies operated by the proxies of this individual are several businesses operating in the Klang Valley and abroad.
With all the allegations arising regarding the abuse of power and corruption within HRDCorp, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) is called upon to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice is upheld and to prevent any further abuse of public funds.
Since HRDCorp operates under the Ministry of Human Resources, a question arises: is Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong aware of or giving insufficient attention to this issue? To what extent has he taken firm action against staff involved in malpractice and corruption within HRDCorp?
