Badminton: Aaron-Chia Aims for Aggressive Play in Upcoming Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama) –

National number two men’s doubles Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik are looking to consistently display a more aggressive style of play in the upcoming Masters Orleans and All England championships next month.

"We have used that game approach before, but it was not consistent, so I hope it can be used in the two championships. The reason is, that is also one of our strengths," Aaron said during a training session at Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) Bukit Kiara.

He added that the style of play, which was one of the ‘weapons’ for his victories with Wooi Yik in several previous tournaments, had not been practised thoroughly and needed to be refined.

"We have also discussed with Herry (head coach of the national doubles) to adapt the game pattern so that it can progress better," Aaron said.

Aaron-Wooi Yik previously emerged as the All England runner-ups in 2019 and last year. However, Aaron is plagued by repeated injuries to his hand, but he said it did not hinder his play together with Wooi Yik.

"My injury is not new but has been around for a long time and it will come up from time to time. So for me, this will not interfere with my game," he said.

When asked about the challenges that the national representatives will face, Aaron expected stiff competition at All England, which will take place from March 11 to 16.

"For the men’s doubles, we have many representatives who will be competing at the All England. We have Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani who are currently at their peak while Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun have just won the Indonesia Masters," he said.

Malaysia will be represented by four pairs from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), namely Aaron-Wooi Yik, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King and Chong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri.

Conclusion

Aaron-Chia’s aggressive style of play is expected to be a key factor in their success in the upcoming championships. With their consistent partnership and experience, they have the potential to make a strong impact in the competition.
