Welcome to Rumah Singgora, a Traditional Home Turned Charming Hideaway

A Unique Blend of Tradition and Innovation

Mohamed Salleh, a former engineer, has transformed a traditional Malay house into a charming eatery and guesthouse using reclaimed wood from demolished houses and buildings around Kelantan. The result is Rumah Singgora, a 7,000 sq ft plot that showcases intricate carvings on pillars and the use of Singgora roof tiles made entirely of clay.

A Dream Realized

Mohamed, 49, spent two years collecting used wood, including high-quality reclaimed wood such as chengal and seraya hitam, to realize his dream of building a traditional-style home. He was inspired by his travels to Indonesia and Thailand, where he saw many buildings highlighting traditional architecture with unique features.

From Engineering to Hospitality

After moving into Rumah Singgora with his wife, Nor Hana Saali, and their family in 2017, they began receiving local visitors and tourists drawn by the house’s unique architecture. The couple then decided to start an eatery offering traditional Kelantanese cuisine, setting up a gazebo on the lawn that can seat 90 people. Mohamed quit his engineering job in Kuala Lumpur to focus fully on hospitality in 2019.

A Taste of Kelantanese Cuisine

At Rumah Singgora, guests can enjoy more than 10 traditional Kelantanese dishes, including singgang beef, boiled fish, fried free-range chicken, vegetable stew, rice field snails in curry, petai prawns, sambal kecupu, and moringa leaf omelette. The eatery serves food using vintage plates and copper pots to maintain a classic feel. A special menu is available during Ramadan, featuring ayam percik, perut air asam, and ikan pari air asam.

Getting There

Rumah Singgora is located at Lot 860, Kampung Air Deras, Jalan Tengku Maasum, Mukim Padang Enggang, 15150 Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
