KUALA Lumpur, March 18 – Ottrangknews Chief Editor and activist Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan has called on the Home Minister to order higher authorities to take immediate action against those spreading false claims that controversial preacher Dr. Zakir Naik has been granted Malaysian citizenship.
Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan emphasized that such misinformation could mislead the public and create unnecessary tension among Malaysians. He stressed that individuals or groups who continue to propagate these falsehoods must be investigated and held accountable under the law.
“The Home Minister must instruct authorities to act swiftly against anyone claiming that Zakir Naik has been granted Malaysian citizenship. This is a serious matter that affects national unity, and the responsible parties must be dealt with under existing laws,” he said.
The statement comes after Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail dismissed the viral claim as false, clarifying that Zakir Naik remains a permanent resident and has never been granted citizenship.
“Malaysians deserve truthful reporting, not falsehoods that serve hidden agendas. I urge everyone to stand for integrity and demand accountability from those who seek to mislead the nation,” Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan added.
Zakir Naik, an Indian national wanted by Indian authorities since 2016 for alleged money laundering and inciting extremism, was granted permanent residency in Malaysia in 2015. While barred from public speaking in 2019, the Home Minister recently stated that no restrictions currently prevent him from giving speeches in Malaysia.
Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan reaffirmed his commitment to truthful journalism and urged the public to verify information before spreading unverified claims that could disrupt national harmony.
