Jakim Lodges Police Report Over Islam-Related Insults on Social Media
Police Report Filed
The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) has lodged a police report over insults against Islam posted by irresponsible parties on social media. The report was filed by Jakim’s Corporate Communication Unit representatives at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters at approximately 8:30 am.
Insults Causing Unease
According to Jakim’s director-general, Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, some of the posts contained elements of insult towards Islam, the Quran, and Prophet Muhammad, causing unease, especially among Muslims. "We are leaving it to the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate and take necessary action," he said.
Minister’s Statement
On March 16, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar emphasized that any form of insult against religion, particularly Islam, must not be tolerated, and firm action should be taken to preserve national harmony.
Jakim’s Stance
Sirajuddin reiterated that Jakim reminds Muslims not to engage in provocation or retaliation over insults against Islam, as it would only prolong the issue. He also emphasized that the department remains open to discussions with non-Muslims on matters that could affect racial and religious harmony in the country.
MADANI Adopted Village Programme
The event also marked the launch of the MADANI Adopted Village programme, which aims to share blessings and enliven Ramadan through activities that benefit all groups, including orphans. Fifty orphans from Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kuala Kangsar were feted at the event, where they received duit raya and daily essentials.
Conclusion
Jakim’s actions demonstrate its commitment to upholding the principles of Islam and promoting racial and religious harmony in the country. By lodging a police report and engaging in dialogue with non-Muslims, the department is taking a proactive approach to address the issue of Islam-related insults on social media.
