PETALING JAYA: National shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik ended their title drought by defeating a Chinese pair on their home ground in the men’s doubles final of the Badminton Asia Championships.

The Malaysian world No 6 pair silenced the noisy home crowd with their aggressive play, defeating the 16th ranked Chen Boyang-Liu Yi 21-19, 21-17 in a pulsating final which lasted 46 minutes in Ningbo, China.

Aaron-Wooi Yik have shown devastating form in this championship after suffering early exits in all tournaments this year. Their last title was the Korea Masters in November 2024.

This is the third time Aaron-Wooi Yik have beaten the Chinese pair in their four meetings so far.

Yesterday, Aaron-Wooi Yik defied the odds by beating top Chinese pair Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang in straight games to enter the final.

Aaron-Wooi Yik take home US$37,000 (RM163,716) and a gold medal each.

In the BAC format, the champions in all categories receive a gold medal each, the runners-up a silver medal each, while both losing semi-finalists will be awarded bronze medals.
