KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 (Bernama) – National triple jumper Andre Anura Anuar has managed to clinch the gold in the triple jump event at the Kuala Lumpur Super Series Athletics Championship today thanks to his foul-proof jump ‘recipe’.

The 26-year-old attributed his ‘clean’ win at Stadium Merdeka here today to his joint efforts with his coach in refining a technique to reduce and eliminate foul jumps after a series of attempts that demanded his patience and attention to detail.

“I’m happy with today’s win especially in terms of my rhythm where previously I would commit a lot of fouls but for this year’s start we managed to overcome fouling before it began to pile up. I’ve had competitions where all my jumps were fouls, for instance at the Commonwealth Games.

“That’s the main objective because today all six of my jumps were clean. We haven’t aimed for distance yet, because this is the first competition,” he told reporters today.

Andre plans to improve on his technique and physical fitness in the run-up of the Asian Track and Field Championship in South Korea this month and aim to record jumps exceeding 16 metres (m) before heading to the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand.

“My target of 16 m is for the start of the season, but maybe because yesterday I had back-to-back events, it can be tiring. But in terms of rhythm and run-up, it all turned out well. We’re very happy, so next time it’ll be all out,” he added.

Andre won gold with a jump of 15.62 m, with Kairos Athletics Club’s Brendon Ting Li King taking second with a jump of 15.22 m and PLD Bagan Datuk’s Mohamad Shah Sholihin Azshar finishing third with a jump of 14.92 m.
