KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 – In a historic milestone for Malaysia, three prominent figures have been awarded the World Health Organization’s (WHO) World No Tobacco Day Award during the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva. The recipients are Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Dr Noraryana Hassan, and Dr Murallitharan Munisamy, recognising their pivotal roles in advancing Malaysia’s tobacco control efforts.

The award, presented by WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, honours their instrumental contribution to the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 – a landmark legislation that strengthens Malaysia’s commitment to safeguarding public health.

Reacting to the international recognition, Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaann, Chief Editor of Ottrangknews and Founder of Dr Ottran Health & Beauty, extended his heartfelt congratulations:

> “This achievement is a proud moment for all Malaysians. I extend my sincere congratulations to the Health Minister and his team. At Ottrangknews, we have consistently championed the call to fully ban vaping in Malaysia through our social media platforms and public engagements. This award reaffirms the importance of that ongoing struggle.”

He added that Ottrangknews will continue its efforts to highlight the harmful effects of vaping and press for a total ban to protect the health of all Malaysians, especially the younger generation.

> “Our fight is far from over. We stand with the Ministry of Health in pushing forward policies that ensure a safer, vape-free future,” said Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaann.

The World No Tobacco Day Award is one of WHO’s most significant recognitions, highlighting individuals and institutions worldwide who demonstrate outstanding contributions to tobacco control.
