PETALING JAYA: Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh has urged Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to clarify its guidelines on the placement of electric vehicle (EV) chargers following complaints from residents in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
Commenting on a recent Malay Mail report, Yeoh said several of the newly installed chargers appeared to encroach on pedestrian walkways and occupy already limited public parking space in areas such as TTDI and Desa Sri Hartamas.
“While I fully support DBKL’s efforts to promote cleaner and more sustainable modes of transportation, I am concerned about the placement of these EV charging units in Segambut, particularly whether they comply with existing regulations related to public safety, urban planning and pedestrian accessibility,” she said in a statement today.
Yeoh, the youth and sports minister, also said that the development of infrastructure for green transport must be thoughtfully implemented.
“The rights, safety, and daily needs of residents should not be compromised,” she said.
She urged DBKL to consult the residents’ representative council (MPP), which she said served as a bridge between the community and DBKL, on policies and projects.
“MPP is always available to support DBKL through dialogue and engagement,” she said.
