RIO DE JANEIRO, July 5 (Bernama)Â —Â Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has reaffirmed his attendance at the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur this October.
Speaking at the opening of BRICS Business Forum here on Friday, Lula reiterated his commitment to participate in the regional summit, following his earlier acceptance of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s invitation.
“I would like to convey my sincere thanks to the Prime Minister of Malaysia for this invitation. I will participate in the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur this October,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of proactive engagement, Lula encouraged Brazilian entrepreneurs to prepare for the trip, noting the summit’s value as a premier business platform.
“I invite Brazilian businessmen and women to get ready to travel to Malaysia, those who want to sell should go, and those who want to buy should also attend. Don’t just wait and expect things to happen,” he said.
Anwar also delivered his speech at the forum entitled: “Bridging Continents, Building Future: A Shared Agenda for Sustainable Progress.”
Also present were Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and President of the Brazilian Confederation of National Industry (CNI) Ricardo Alban.
Malaysia’s participation in the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit is in its capacity as a BRICS Partner Country and Chair of ASEAN 2025.
The summit will mark the first gathering of heads of state and government from BRICS member and partner countries.
Malaysia officially attained BRICS Partner Country status on Jan 1, 2025.
