The High Commission of Malaysia in Bandar Seri Begawan, in collaboration with the Rizqun International Hotel and Tourism Malaysia, is organizing the Malaysian Food Festival 2024 from November 15 to 17 at the Rizqun Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan. High Commissioner-Designate of Malaysia, Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, expressed hope that the festival would not only showcase Malaysia’s diverse culinary offerings but also foster deeper cultural connections between Malaysia and Brunei.

"I hope the festival not only highlights Malaysia’s rich gastronomic flavours but also adds value to cultural diversity and fosters deeper connections between the two neighbouring countries," he said in a statement.

Opening Ceremony and Cooking Demonstration

The opening ceremony of the Malaysian Food Festival was held on Thursday, where guests indulged in an array of authentic Malaysian delicacies, including Nasi Kandar, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Dagang, Laksa, and Nasi Kerabu, prepared by Malaysian chefs. A cooking demonstration showcasing traditional Malaysian dishes of Char Kuey Teow and Talam Sagu also took place on the opening day, led personally by Datin Zaeidah Mohamed Esa, spouse of Mohd Aini.

The opening ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries, including four Cabinet ministers from the Bruneian government, namely, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Minister of Development, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, and Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; Deputy Minister; heads of diplomatic mission; senior officials from Bruneian government; and corporate leaders.
