A Taste of France in TTDI

Discovering Delia Wine Bistro

Tucked away in the heart of Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Delia Wine Bistro feels like a cosy slice of France in this part of KL. The lush greenery at the entrance gives it a homely vibe. As you step inside, you’re greeted by exposed brick walls, warm lighting, and the soft hum of French music. It’s the kind of place that invites you to unwind with a glass of wine or a laidback meal.

The Story Behind Delia Wine Bistro

At the heart of this haven is Laurent Robert, a 55-year-old Frenchman from the Champagne region, whose passion for food and wine is deeply rooted in his family’s heritage. This former mechanical engineer comes from a long line of Champagne makers, with his great-grandmother, who founded their estate, being a key figure in the family’s history.

A Rich Heritage

Laurent shared with FMT Lifestyle, "She lost her husband during the first week of World War I. She carried on the business until my grandfather took over after World War II." Laurent’s vision is to create a relaxed, authentic French dining experience, offering fresh, daily specials through a "plat du jour" concept – one day it’s beef, the next it’s seafood or lamb – keeping things fresh and interesting.

Wine and More

One highlight is the 2010 Château Grivière from Bordeaux – a smooth, medium-bodied red with earthy notes and a fruity aroma, perfect for unwinding after a long day. But Delia isn’t just about wine. The steak tartare, made from finely minced fresh beef, is a standout, with a delicate taste and a hint of French mustard to balance the flavours.

French Delicacies

The escargot may be a comforting, indulgent option, with tender snails bathed in a garlicky, herb butter sauce. The cassoulet is another star of the menu, a hearty combination of duck confit, pork sausage, pork belly, and tender white beans. The slow-cooked duck is tender, and the smoky sausage adds a bold depth of flavour. For a spicier twist, try the merguez – North African lamb sausages packed with bold spices and served with harissa sauce, which adds an extra kick without overpowering the dish.

Desserts and Finale

Finish your meal with a classic dessert, such as the crème brûlée, with its crackling caramelised sugar layer and silky custard underneath. Or, if you’re a chocolate lover, go for the mousse: light, airy, and decadently rich, it melts beautifully on the tongue.

Conclusion

Delia Wine Bistro brings a taste of France to town, with its rustic fare, authentic French atmosphere, and passion for fine wine. Whether you’re craving a comforting meal or wishing to sip on a glass of vino, this cozy bistro is the perfect hideaway.
