KUALA LUMPUR: A 51-year-old nurse working at a prominent hospital has filed a complaint about the difficulties she faces due to serious health issues, including osteoarthritis in both knees and degenerative spinal disease. She recently returned to work after a two-month medical leave following knee surgery, but continues to experience severe pain every day while on duty.
The nurse, who now works in a ward with younger colleagues, is struggling to perform her duties, which require a lot of physical movement. Although she informed her nurse supervisor about her condition, no action was taken, with the excuse that nurses must work in the ward without exceptions.
According to sources, the nurse has taken numerous sick leaves (MC) provided by government clinics, but her knee pain has worsened and is affecting her mental well-being. She has also been diagnosed with degenerative spinal disease, which has caused stress and depression, leading to a referral to a psychiatric clinic for further treatment.
Although the hospital claims that all staff must perform their duties in the ward, many sympathize with the nurse, who has to endure pain daily without any adjustments to her work duties.
The nurse is now demanding that the hospital reconsider her duties, including the possibility of transferring her to a department more suitable for her health condition. She also hopes that the relevant authorities will consider the health of employees when determining job assignments, especially for those facing serious health issues.
The community and colleagues hope that fair actions will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of nurses and provide them with the opportunity to continue serving in roles more aligned with their health conditions.
