Lim, Legal Expert, Challenges MCA to Clarify Position on Najib’s House Arrest, Urges Wee Ka Siong to Apologize, Ramasamy’s Political Motive

PETALING JAYA: A DAP Member of Parliament has called on MCA to clarify its stance on whether former Prime Minister Najib Razak should serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest. Kepong Member of Parliament, Lim Lip Eng, emphasized that the public has the right to receive a clear and straightforward answer from MCA, without any convoluted statements.

In a statement, Lim also urged MCA President, Wee Ka Siong, to publicly apologize to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim regarding his remarks about the “addendum” of the Federal Territories Pardons Board. Lim criticized Wee’s statement regarding the addendum, which involved the possibility of Najib being allowed to serve the remainder of his SRC International case sentence under house arrest.

Lim, who is also a legal expert, stated that although Wee rejected Anwar’s refusal to confirm the addendum due to concerns of sub judice, he had misunderstood the legal principle. Lim explained that in Malaysia’s legal system, which does not have a jury system, the issue can be answered simply with a “yes or no” without violating any legal rules.

Lim stressed that Wee, who is not trained in law, should have consulted MCA’s legal experts before making such a statement. He added that by commenting on the matter, Wee had overstepped because the principle of sub judice still applies in Malaysia’s judiciary system, as demonstrated by previous court decisions.

Meanwhile, Urimai Chairman, P. Ramasamy, was seen attempting to praise Wee Ka Siong for his bravery in raising the issue. However, this view seemed to be more politically motivated, as Ramasamy did not show respect for the clear legal principles. Although he mentioned that Wee challenged the government and demonstrated accountability, this recognition appeared to be more about offering political support rather than valuing the legal fairness in this matter.
