This country needs more people like Dr Akmal Saleh.

After all, it seems that the Umno Youth chief is empowered to issue ultimatums to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to take action against a man who had hoisted the national flag upside down.

Not even the current prime minister has ever handed down such ultimatums.

To disregard the separation of powers of the three branches of government is something to behold.

Clearly, such “proactiveness” needs to be rewarded.

And as Akmal seems to enjoy “immunity”, as alluded to by a former deputy minister, he should nudge the AGC into action over much bigger issues that have yet to see the light of day.

He should also give underperforming ministries ultimatums in the interest of the general public’s complaints and queries. Wouldn’t that be good for everybody?

Like pushing for a harsher punishment over the snafu involving the national flag in the 2024 SPM analysis report.

It was reported that the education ministry allegedly transferred out several officers from its examination board after the national flag featured two stars and eight stripes.

So how do we “reward” a gem like Akmal, who “politely” reprimanded an elderly man whom he labelled an “Ah Pek”?

Well, if the authorities won’t do it, it is best that the people – especially those Akmal would consider “Ah Peks” – take the initiative at the next general election.

How? Just don’t back any party linked to Akmal’s party. To recycle a motto previously used by some political parties: A vote for “X Party” is a vote for Akmal.

Only then can we gauge if Akmal’s heroics are a blessing for this country or a liability to his political allies.

All we need to do is wait.
