DAP’s Central Executive Committee Elections: Another Candidate Withdraws, Loke’s Leadership Endures

PETALING JAYA:

Bukit Kepayang assemblyman Nicole Tan has become the fifth candidate to withdraw from DAP’s central executive committee elections, scheduled for tomorrow. Tan, who is also the Negeri Sembilan tourism, arts and culture committee chairman, made the decision in response to DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook’s call to prioritize the party’s interests over personal ambitions.

Supporting Loke’s Leadership

Tan’s decision is also seen as a show of support for Loke’s leadership and the party’s future direction. In a brief statement, Tan expressed her gratitude to those who nominated her for the elections.

Other Withdrawals

Earlier today, Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Syn Tze, former Bagan Jermal assemblyman Soon Lip Chee, and ordinary members K Kalidas and PR Kaliyappan also withdrew from the elections to give their full support for the party’s "3G" (third generation) leadership under Loke. On February 19, three leaders, namely, national adviser Tan Kok Wai, national treasurer Fong Kui Lun, and party veteran Phee Boon Poh, withdrew from the CEC elections to "give way to a new generation of leaders".

Lim Guan Eng’s Stance

DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng has dismissed media reports of his withdrawal from the CEC elections as "unverified and false". He has announced that he will not pull out and will let his future be decided by DAP members instead.

Party Leadership Factions

Certain factions within DAP are advocating for Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow to take over as chairman. However, a significant number of members support Lim’s continued leadership, viewing him as a strong personality, and unafraid to stand up to PKR and Umno.

Conclusion

The withdrawals from the CEC elections have further solidified Loke’s position as the leader of DAP, with many members rallying behind his vision for the party’s future. As the party continues to navigate the complexities of Malaysian politics, it remains to be seen how this development will impact the future of DAP.
