KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) — The national team continued their excellent run when they easily defeated the Philippines 2-0 in the final match of Group D of the 2025 Asian Cup Sepak Takraw Championship held at Titiwangsa Stadium, today.

In the match, Malaysia, led by Mohammad Syahir Rosdi (captain), Farhan Adam (setter) and Mohamad Azlan Alias (striker), had no problem maintaining the momentum of the victory they had earlier displayed to emerge as the group champions.

The Philippines, however, started well at the beginning of the first set but that was not enough to stop the pressure of Ahmad Mohd Zain’s men when they bounced back to win 15-9.

In the second set, the entry of Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam to replace Mohammad Syahir successfully helped to put pressure on their opponents before concluding the second set with a stylish 15-6 victory.

Earlier, Malaysia opened the Group D campaign on the right foot when they demolished Nepal and Singapore in straight sets.

The victory over the Philippines ensured Malaysia emerged as Group D champions, while the Philippines had to settle for second place as runners-up.

Malaysia is scheduled to meet Group A runners-up Brunei tonight.
