UMNO Ministers Ready to Cooperate with High Court on Najib’s House Arrest

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 (Bernama) – UMNO ministers are ready to cooperate with the High Court if needed to testify on the existence of a document that would allow former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the remaining of his prison sentence under house arrest, said UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Decision Reached at UMNO’s Supreme Council Meeting

The decision was reached at the party’s Supreme Council meeting at Menara Dato Onn, where the leaders discussed the court’s decision to allow Najib’s application to initiate judicial review proceedings to confirm the document’s existence.

UMNO’s Stance on the Issue

UMNO is grateful for and respects the Court of Appeal’s decision, and is confident that the High Court will act independently and fairly to assess the legitimacy of the existence of the additional document. Asyraf Wajdi emphasized that UMNO will continue to seek the grace and consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a full pardon for Najib per the prerogative powers under Article 42(1) and (2) of the Federal Constitution.
