Badminton Talent Development Programme Unveiled in Kota Bharu
Kota Bharu, Jan 15 (Bernama) – The Badminton Talent Development Programme of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) and Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) KPM-Perodua is a platform to unearth talent among students nationwide.
Objective of the Programme
MOE Sports, Co-Curriculum and Arts Division deputy director Jalaluddin Ismail said that the programme is an initiative by the ministry to produce new players in badminton, thus representing the country at the international level. "Basically, students participating in this development programme who have the potential will be offered to continue their studies at the Bukit Jalil Sports School (SSBJ) and the Badminton Academy under the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM)," he said.
Success of the Programme
Since the programme started in 2018, a total of 25 trainees have been at SSBJ to continue their studies and continue training in an effort to improve their performance and talent to participate in high-level competitions. As a result of this programme, two players became champions at the World Junior Badminton Championships last November in China. "We want to produce the best badminton players at the state, national and international levels," Jalaluddin said.
Collaboration between MOE and Perodua
MOE and Perodua have collaborated to provide opportunities for students to showcase their talents in the sport. "The collaboration between Perodua and the MOE allows us to communicate more effectively for the students to ensure that training and tournaments can be organised," said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Ahmad.
