Malaysia to Field In-Form Players Against Hong Kong in Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships

National badminton team coach, K. Yogendran, has revealed that Malaysia will field in-form players against Hong Kong in their opening Group B tie at the 2025 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships (BAMTC) in Qingdao, China, tomorrow.
Team Selection Based on Current Form
According to Yogendran, the Malaysian coaching team have agreed to field players based on their current form and suitability against Hong Kong rather than relying on their world rankings.
"After discussing with the coaches, including those in Malaysia, we have decided to select players for tomorrow’s match based on their recent performance rather than their rankings," he said in a video shared by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) today.
"This is a team event, so we need to strategise. We will field players based on their current form and who we believe are best suited to face Hong Kong," he added.
No Experimentation with Pairings
Additionally, Yogendran confirmed that the national coaching team have decided not to experiment with pairings against Hong Kong tomorrow.
"We will not try scratch pairings; we will field our regular pairs," he said.
"Based on their current form, our doubles pairs are all in top condition," he added.
Malaysia’s Chances
Malaysia, who has never progressed past the group stage since the tournament’s inception in 2017, will face Hong Kong tomorrow before taking on arch-rival Indonesia this Thursday in their final Group B match.
Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
