PUTRAJAYA, Dec 4 (Bernama) — UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that the party has not received any applications from former members seeking to rejoin the party.

No Applications Received

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, made the statement during a press conference after the monthly assembly of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development here today. He said that if there are any applications, the matter will be presented at the next UMNO Supreme Council meeting.

"So far, there have been no applications. If there are any, they will be brought to the Management Committee and presented to the Supreme Council," he said.

Next Supreme Council Meeting

Ahmad Zahid also announced that the next Supreme Council meeting is expected to be held in January or February next year.

Lifting of Membership Suspension

On November 25, the Supreme Council lifted the membership suspension of former Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman with immediate effect. UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the unanimous decision was in accordance with Clauses 10.6 and 5.3 of the party constitution.

Tajuddin had been suspended for six years starting in September 2022 for openly criticising the party.

Dismissal of Former Information Chief’s Remarks

Regarding former UMNO information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan’s remarks claiming that Ahmad Zahid had built a narrative of being a "hero", the Deputy Prime Minister dismissed him, saying, "He is irrelevant."
