KUALA LUMPUR:
When Chloe Cherng first started Floristy15, her floral design academy, she suddenly found herself a victim of cyberbullying. People she had never met began posting negative things about her and her shop online.
She later discovered it was a planned attack by a competitor. While the negativity eventually lessened, it didn’t stop entirely.
Inspired by this experience, Cherng decided take all the dirt thrown at her and use it to grow something beautiful. This month, she launched “Bloom & Heal”, the country’s first ever mental health-themed floral exhibition.
Taking place at Fahrenheit88 shopping centre here until April 20, Bloom & Heal invites visitors to undertake a sensorial journey addressing the invisible struggles faced by many. The exhibition pays tribute not just to the beauty of flowers but also the resilience of the human spirit.

“I’ve always been passionate about mental health, and I’m doing a masters in counselling. And, of course, I love flowers. So putting them together just made sense,” Cherng, 21, told FMT Lifestyle.
“Flowers are just so calming and healing; looking at them gives you peace of mind. So they really fit the theme of this exhibition.”
Bloom & Heal was officially launched on Tuesday. Present were representatives from the Malaysia Book of Records, who certified the event as Malaysia’s first-ever mental health-themed floral exhibition.
According to Cherng, each floral arrangement on display tells a story to convey mental health struggles and the beauty of recovery. The blossoms also incorporate a colour scheme inspired by Baba-Nyonya culture.

Bloom & Heal features talks by Hospital Kajang, the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA), and Life Line Association Malaysia. Those interested in learning the art of floral arrangement can also attend workshops conducted by Floristy15.
Other highlights include public health talks, breathing exercises and parental yoga demonstrations, and Les Mills dance and body combat sessions.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Fahrenheit88, Bath & Body Works, Celebrity Fitness, April 22, and Melody FM.
While many of the floral arrangements are featured in the mall’s main atrium, Cherng also invites visitors to stop by the side gallery nearby. There, they can check out the Story Wall, a series of displays containing personal stories from Cherng’s life.

There will also be personal accounts from over 30 people, and Cherng encourages attendees to share their own thoughts or experiences at the Message Wall in the main atrium.
“I hope visitors will share their stories with those they love and not feel like they have to hide. I also hope they realise it’s OK to not be OK. By spreading kindness, together we can all break the stigma,” she said.
As for the future, the “budding” entrepreneur aims to organise another event like this at the end of the year, on a larger scale.
Ultimately, through Bloom & Heal, she and her team encourage guests to pause, breathe, and reconnect: with nature, with others, and most importantly, with themselves.
