Negeri Sembilan Umno’s Hope for State Seat Division
SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan Umno has expressed hope that state seats will be divided equally between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan for the next general election.
Divided State Seats
State Umno chairman Jalaluddin Alias said BN and PH should be given 18 state seats each, with BN being allowed to defend the seats it is currently holding, and some of those held by Perikatan National.
BN currently occupies 14 of the 36 state seats and five of the eight parliamentary seats. PH has 17 state seats, and PN five.
Targeting Additional State Seats
“We are eyeing additional state seats, namely Serting, Gemas and Bagan Pinang,” Jalaluddin said at the Negeri Sembilan BN convention here this evening.
Dismissal of Coattail Riding Notion
He also dismissed the notion that BN was riding on PH’s coattails in order to be part of the state government.
The unity government in the state could not have been established without BN, he said, adding that Negeri Sembilan had, at one time, been one of BN’s strongholds.
A Call for Unity
Agree to Disagree, Says Mohamad Hasan
BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan called on the coalition’s members to keep calm and come to a consensus even if they held differing views.
He told the convention that such an approach was vital to regain the coalition’s strength. “Disagreements are normal, but don’t let it weaken us.”
Mohamad said voters would not back a weak coalition and one where its leaders were constantly locking horns.
“No one will vote for a party that is imploding,” he said.
Conclusion
In the upcoming general election, Negeri Sembilan Umno is hoping for an equal division of state seats between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan. The coalition is aiming to retain its current 14 state seats and also eyeing additional seats. However, the notion that BN is riding on PH’s coattails to be part of the state government has been dismissed. The call for unity and consensus is crucial in regaining the coalition’s strength and gaining the support of the voters.
