DUNGUN: The body of a man who was swept away by strong flood currents while attempting to pass through a flooded path in an oil palm plantation at Felda Kerteh 3 was found earlier today.

The victim, Wan Muhammad Firdaus Wan Nasir, 36, was discovered by the search and rescue (SAR) team at 2:15 PM.

Commander of the Malaysian Special Tactical Operations and Rescue Team (STORM) Zone 2 Terengganu, Mohd. Zailani Abdullah, stated that the victim’s body was found floating about 10 meters from where his motorcycle had previously been located.

“The body was found after the rescue team used water current techniques with a boat. The SAR operation was challenging due to the area being filled with trees, and the floodwaters were about three meters deep,” he said. The body was later sent to the Forensic Unit of Dungun Hospital for further action.

Earlier, Dungun District Police Chief Superintendent Maizura Abdul Kadir reported that the victim had entered the oil palm plantation with two friends around 5 PM the previous day.

Wan Muhammad Firdaus, who was riding a motorcycle behind a lorry carrying his two friends, reportedly lost control and was swept away by strong currents while trying to exit the plantation at around 5 AM yesterday.
