BANGI, 22 RAMADAN – Ottrangknews Chief Editor and social activist, Dato G Kumaar Aamaan, has voiced his support for the proposal by Member of Parliament Hassan Abdul Karim, urging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to reconsider the construction of Masjid Madani at an alternative location to ensure national unity remains intact.
He emphasized that the decision to demolish or relocate the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple for the construction of a mosque could trigger racial tensions and undermine Malaysia’s interfaith harmony.
> “As an activist who fights for the rights of all communities, I agree with Hassan Abdul Karim’s view that the best solution is to build the mosque at another nearby location without disturbing the long-existing temple. Do not divide the people over such an issue. Harmony and racial unity must be prioritized,” said Dato G Kumaar Aamaan in a statement.
Respect Religious Rights, Establish a Fair Solution
He stressed that Malaysia, as a multicultural nation, must uphold justice and wisdom when handling sensitive matters like this. According to him, leaders must adopt a balanced and inclusive approach to prevent division among Malaysia’s multiracial and multi-religious society.
> “Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim often emphasizes the ‘Madani’ concept, which focuses on justice and harmony. This is the best opportunity to demonstrate mature leadership by finding a solution that does not marginalize any party,” he added.
Jakel’s Decision & Temple Relocation Issue
Jakel previously stated that efforts to relocate the temple had been ongoing for 10 years but had not reached a resolution. Jakel’s Corporate Communications Chief, Aiman Darzuki, clarified that the land has been fully owned by Jakel since 2012 and was endowed for mosque construction by its founder.
However, Dato G Kumaar Aamaan believes that building the mosque without affecting the temple would be a decision respected by all and prevent negative sentiments from spreading within the community.
He called on the government to intervene wisely, ensuring that all parties receive their rightful place without sparking religious conflict.
> “During this blessed month of Ramadan, we must demonstrate fairness and compassion to all citizens, regardless of race or religion. I urge the Prime Minister to take the most harmonious, fair, and unity-based approach,” he added.
Dato G Kumaar Aamaan reaffirmed that mosques and temples can coexist without jeopardizing anyone’s rights, and he hopes the government will take the best course of action for the people and the nation.
