KUALA LUMPUR, FEBRUARY 7, 2025 – The rising issues of vaping and drug abuse among school students have become a serious concern. Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan, a community leader, along with Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Chairman of Ikatan Komuniti Selamat, are demanding stronger actions from the government to tackle this escalating threat to the health and well-being of the nation’s youth.
Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye emphasized that vaping, often promoted as a safer alternative to smoking, in reality, brings harmful effects to health. Studies show that vaping can lead to serious respiratory problems, cardiovascular diseases, and long-term nicotine addiction.
Additionally, drug addiction among students is worsening the situation, negatively impacting their mental and physical health, as well as causing disruptions in their cognitive development. Lee further noted that both drug addiction and vaping are also damaging to students’ academic performance, leading to absenteeism, behavioral issues, and a decline in grades.
“To tackle these issues, we need more decisive actions from the authorities. The government must implement more effective preventive measures and increase collaboration between parents, educators, and the community to protect children and ensure they grow up in a safe and healthy environment,” said Tan Sri Lee in a joint statement.
Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan also expressed his concern about the government’s lack of action on this long-standing issue. According to him, stricter surveillance and better education about the dangers of vaping and drugs need to be provided to students.
“I have been raising this issue for a long time, and I urge the authorities not to remain passive. We need to take more serious actions to save the future generation of the country,” added Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan.
With cooperation from all parties, they hope to address the issues of vaping and drug addiction among students, ensuring a brighter future for the next generation.
