Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan Urges Government to Address Special Approval for Restaurant and Recycling Entrepreneurs

SHAH ALAM – Editor-in-Chief of Ottrangknews and community activist, Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan, has called on the Prime Minister to take serious action on the issue of special approval for foreign workers, which directly impacts the survival of restaurant and recycling entrepreneurs in the country.

According to him, the ongoing freeze on approvals for foreign worker quotas has severely burdened business owners who have already complied with all government regulations.

“We are not asking for anything against the rules, but why is approval still being frozen? What wrong have the entrepreneurs committed when they’ve followed every guideline? The government needs to act urgently by granting special approvals to prevent these industries from collapsing,” emphasized Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan.

Presma Appeals for the Return of Replacement Recruitment System

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) has also urged the government to reinstate the replacement foreign worker recruitment system, which allows employers to replace workers who have completed their contracts or returned to their home countries.

Its president, Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan, stated that this system was previously implemented but was abruptly discontinued without clear reasons.

“The government should also consider increasing the age limit for foreign workers from 18-45 years to 18-60 years. Furthermore, we hope the implementation of the multi-tier levy system will be postponed temporarily,” he said.

Significant Impact on the SME Industry

The freeze on foreign worker quota approvals has had a significant impact on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially restaurants and recycling facilities. A lack of labor has forced many businesses to shut down, ultimately affecting the country’s economy.

“Restaurants are part of the SME chain. If one restaurant closes, it impacts the entire economic ecosystem,” Jawahar Ali added.

Recycling Entrepreneurs Request Special Approval

Recycling entrepreneurs are also facing similar challenges. They are urging the government to grant special approvals to ensure the continuity of their operations, which are highly dependent on foreign workers.

Government Must Act Quickly

Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan reminded the government to prioritize the welfare of local entrepreneurs. He called for more practical and flexible policies to support local businesses and ensure sustainable economic growth.

“This issue not only concerns the interests of entrepreneurs but also has a major impact on the overall national economy. The Prime Minister must take immediate action before the situation worsens,” he said.
