Dato G Kumaar Aamaan: Why is DBKL Acting Like Gangsters Towards Abang Belon?

Must Read

Kuala Lumpur – The Chief Editor of Ottrangknews, Dato G Kumaar Aamaan, has questioned the harsh actions of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement officers against a balloon vendor known as Abang Belon, who claimed he was assaulted while trying to earn a living in the capital.

He emphasized that the enforcement officers’ actions, which resemble “licensed gangsters,” have raised public concern and must be explained immediately.

“Is This an Order from the Minister of Federal Territories?”

Dato G Kumaar Aamaan also questioned whether the harsh action taken against small traders was a direct order from the Minister of Federal Territories or simply the actions of DBKL officers who exceeded their authority.

“I want to know, did the Minister of Federal Territories issue an order for enforcement officers to act this harshly? Or is this merely the decision of DBKL officers who do not understand the struggles of the people? If there is an official directive, then the minister must answer,” he said in a statement.

What is the Solution if Vendors Do Not Have a License?

He acknowledged that street vendors must comply with the law but stressed that actions against them should be more humane.

“If vendors do not have a license, DBKL should help them obtain one easily instead of acting aggressively. Introduce a simpler and lower-cost registration system for this group. If they are genuinely trying to earn a living, why not give them a chance?” he added.

He suggested that the government revive the Wilayah Bebas Berniaga (Free Trade Zone) concept, previously introduced by the Perikatan Nasional government, to provide small traders with an opportunity to earn a living without excessive pressure.

Will DBKL Enforcement Officers Be Dismissed?

Following this incident, questions have arisen about whether the DBKL officers involved will face disciplinary action or be dismissed after an investigation. Dato G Kumaar Aamaan believes that dismissal is not the best solution.

“I hope these officers are not dismissed, but instead given a stern warning and retraining so they better understand how to handle small traders with more compassion,” he stated.

As of now, DBKL has yet to issue an official statement regarding further action against the officers involved in this incident. The public is now waiting for answers on whether justice will be served for Abang Belon and other small traders facing similar pressure.
