Kuala Lumpur, 20 May 2025 –
Community activist, media figure, and Chief Editor of Ottrangknews, Dato G Kumaar Aamaann, has called on all Malaysians to take health issues seriously, especially with the alarming rise of diabetes, which is now costing the nation RM64.2 billion annually.
This chronic disease not only leads to limb amputations and loss of life, but also places a heavy economic burden on the national healthcare system and reduces the country’s productivity.
> “When thousands of people lose their limbs or lives due to diabetes, the government has to bear the cost of treatment and productivity loss. This is a loss we cannot afford to ignore,” stressed Dato G Kumaar Aamaann.
He urged Malaysians to adopt a healthy lifestyle through regular health screenings, sugar intake control, balanced nutrition, and daily physical activity.
Dato G Kumaar Aamaann also called on the government to intensify nationwide awareness campaigns and offer incentives to those who successfully maintain good health.
> “We can avoid this RM64.2 billion loss if everyone — the people, government, and communities — takes action now. Don’t wait until your leg is amputated or a life is lost to start changing,” he said.
