Kuala Lumpur, 22 January 2025 – A man who claims to be an Ayurveda practitioner is being investigated by the police after being accused of misleading the public through several videos uploaded on the TikTok platform. The individual, who falsely uses the title “Datuk Seri,” is alleged to have offered treatments for chronic diseases without approval from health authorities.
Serdang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner A. A. Anbalagan, confirmed that an investigation had been opened against the suspect after receiving several police reports from former patients. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been offering unlicensed treatments in Puchong and other locations in Selangor, Johor, Perak, and Penang.
Fraudulent Treatment Allegations, Patients Losing Tens of Thousands of Ringgit
In one of the recently uploaded TikTok videos, the suspect showcased two individuals who claimed to have fully recovered after receiving Ayurveda treatment from him. However, the public believes these claims to be a scam aimed at misleading the community, especially after several patients came forward with complaints about the negative effects of the treatment they received.
According to police sources, a woman claimed that her mother, who suffered from chronic kidney disease, had received treatment from the suspect for six months. The suspect allegedly instructed the patient to stop taking hospital medication and rely entirely on the Ayurveda treatment offered by him. As a result, after spending nearly RM10,000, the patient’s health deteriorated and was eventually confirmed to have passed away.
Unlicensed Premises Seized, Suspect Claims Conspiracy
Further investigations revealed that the premises used by the suspect in Puchong were operating without a valid license to provide health services. The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MBSJ) carried out an enforcement operation and immediately seized the premises.
However, the suspect remained defiant, accusing the authorities and the media of being part of a conspiracy to bring him down. More concerning, he threatened to take legal action against several local media outlets and a medical doctor who had provided advice about Ayurveda treatments on TikTok.
Police Issue Warning, Public Advised to Be Cautious
The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Offenses Related to Titles Act 2017, which provides for a prison sentence of up to three years if someone is found guilty of using an unrecognized title.
The police advise the public to be cautious and not easily be deceived by individuals offering treatments without confirmation from health authorities. The public is also reminded not to spread speculations that could affect the investigation.
Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken to ensure that no one else falls victim to fraudulent treatments that could jeopardize their health.
