KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 – The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has shut down a dirty chicken slaughterhouse at Taman Perindustrian IKS and Spring Crest Industrial Park, but is this enough?
The public is questioning why only one location was targeted when dirty and unhygienic chicken slaughterhouses operate all over the city. Is this just a symbolic move to show action while the real problem remains widespread?
Is DBKL Turning a Blind Eye to Corruption?
Netizens are now raising concerns over whether DBKL is truly committed to enforcing hygiene regulations or simply taking selective action against premises that lack ‘protection’.
“We all know that many chicken slaughterhouses have been operating in disgusting conditions for years. Why are only one or two places being shut down? Is it because they didn’t pay ‘under-the-table’ money to certain officers?” questioned a social media user.
Corruption in law enforcement is not a new issue. Many previous reports have suggested that certain DBKL officials may be protecting illegal businesses in exchange for bribes.
“We want to see DBKL take bold action against all illegal slaughterhouses, not just a token few. Stop doing half-hearted work!” said an anonymous activist.
Dirty Chicken Slaughterhouses – A Long-Standing, Unresolved Issue
According to DBKL’s report, the latest operation uncovered shocking hygiene violations, including:
✅ Filthy floors and walls
✅ No grease traps, with waste being dumped directly into public drains
✅ No valid business licenses, no food handling certification, and no typhoid vaccinations for workers
This problem is nothing new. But why is action only taken after major public complaints?
“If the media and the public hadn’t spoken up, would DBKL have done anything? How many more dirty chicken slaughterhouses are they deliberately ignoring?” asked another netizen.
Demand for a Nationwide Crackdown!
The people are now urging DBKL to stop shutting down just one or two locations to pacify public anger and instead launch a large-scale crackdown on all chicken slaughterhouses in Kuala Lumpur.
“DBKL must have a stricter monitoring system. Don’t wait for the media to expose issues before taking action,” said a consumer rights NGO representative.
Some have also called for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate whether bribery is involved in approving these dirty slaughterhouses.
Public Health and Food Safety Are Not a Joke!
Chicken is a staple food for Malaysians. If hygiene at slaughterhouses is not strictly maintained, it could lead to the spread of harmful bacteria like Salmonella, which can cause serious food poisoning.
The public deserves clean and safe food. Authorities must not risk public health just to protect the profits of corrupt businesses!
DBKL must no longer compromise! It is time for firm action to ensure all chicken slaughterhouses fully comply with health and safety regulations!
