“Rich Artistes” Still Bankrupt: 50 Celebrities Remain Bankrupt Despite Showing a Lavish Lifestyle on Social Media

KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Insolvency Malaysia (MDI) has revealed that around 50 celebrities, including several well-known singers with the title “Datuk,” who frequently show off their luxurious lifestyles on social media, are still bankrupt. Surprisingly, some of these artistes refuse to cooperate and make the required monthly payments, despite being viewed as “rich artistes” in the public eye.

MDI Director-General, Datuk M Bakri Abd Majid, stated that this irresponsible behavior, where the artistes refuse to meet with MDI officers or fail to make the required payments, makes it difficult for the department to help them change their bankrupt status according to legal provisions.

“Although they often display their luxurious lifestyle on social media, including vacations abroad and purchasing expensive goods, they fail to make the monthly contributions based on their financial capability. The amounts required are actually small, but they still refuse to comply,” explained Datuk M Bakri.

He also added that some of these artistes have received bankruptcy notices for quite some time but have not taken any steps to resolve their cases. This raises concerns as their refusal to cooperate not only harms themselves but also complicates the bankruptcy resolution process.
