KUALA LUMPUR: The Leader of the Opposition, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut), today emphasized that the government is hiding the Royal Decree, and if this is happening, it is not impossible that other issues are also being concealed, which has raised dissatisfaction among Members of Parliament from the ruling government.
In his debate on the Royal Decree Appreciation Motion in the Dewan Rakyat, Hamzah claimed that the act of hiding the Addendum Decree related to the Royal Decree was a serious act of treason and an obstruction of justice, stating that if this matter is not addressed, it will continue to tarnish the public’s trust in the government.
“This claim is to remind all parties that if the Royal Decree is hidden, what other larger issues are being concealed?” said Hamzah firmly.
This issue sparked tension in the Dewan Rakyat, with several government MPs, including Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PH-Sungai Petani) and Howard Lee (PH-Ipoh Timur), rising to oppose the accusation. The Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, then intervened, reminding all parties not to violate Meeting Rules 36(2) and prohibiting the use of the word “treason” in the debate concerning the Addendum Decree, which is still under consideration in court.
“This is my decision, I have decided. Since it is in court and the word ‘treason’ also follows the Meeting Rules, I will not allow the issue and the word anymore,” Johari explained.
