Famous Politician and Activist AvatarSingh Puchong Questions Anwar and Mahathir: Why Aren’t They Brave Like Prabowo in Acknowledging Their Indian DNA?

Must Read

Puchong, Malaysia – Prominent Malaysian politician and activist, AvatarSingh Puchong, recently raised an intriguing question regarding two major political figures in Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He asked why both leaders have never openly acknowledged their Indian heritage, unlike Indonesian President-elect, Prabowo Subianto, who recently made a public confession about his Indian ancestry.

AvatarSingh, a well-known outspoken figure in Malaysian politics, challenged Mahathir and Anwar to be more transparent about their personal histories, which are known to include Indian roots. He said, “Prabowo bravely acknowledges his Indian ancestry during his visit to India, but why are Malaysian leaders with Indian blood unwilling to do the same? This is not just politics; it’s about identity.”

In a statement, AvatarSingh added that Prabowo’s admission of his ancestry at an international forum was seen as a form of cultural diplomacy, which could strengthen Indonesia-India relations. He emphasized that this move reflected openness and acceptance of ethnic diversity, a mindset that should be emulated by Malaysian leaders.

Why Haven’t Mahathir and Anwar Been Open About It?

As is well-known, Tun Dr. Mahathir has Indian ancestry through his father, Mohamad Iskandar, who came from Kerala, India. Similarly, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is believed to have Indian ancestors. While this background is not a secret, neither of these political figures has publicly acknowledged or discussed their Indian roots.

Political analysts suggest that this difference in approach may be influenced by the social and political context in Malaysia, where the Malay identity is often emphasized in political narratives, in contrast to Indonesia, which has a more open and ethnically diverse society.

Will Malaysian Leaders Follow Prabowo’s Example?

At the same time, AvatarSingh stated that the openness shown by Prabowo could potentially change the political dynamics in Malaysia. “Will Malaysian leaders follow in Prabowo’s footsteps in embracing ethnic diversity? Or will they continue with the status quo, which places more emphasis on the Malay identity?”

This question continues to fuel political discussions in Malaysia, with some believing that a change in how leaders engage with their identities could influence the country’s political dynamics.
