SHAH ALAM, 16 December 2024 – Questions persist among the public regarding the status of the forensic audit on three organizations linked to MIC: Maika Holdings, the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA), and the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED). This audit, promised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his tenure as Opposition Leader, has yet to show any concrete progress.
In September 2022, Anwar made serious allegations of misappropriation of funds meant to assist the Indian community and called for a forensic audit as well as a public inquiry if necessary. Nearly two years later, the public is still waiting for answers and decisive action.
R. Yuneswaran, the Member of Parliament for Segamat and a strong advocate of transparency, also urged MIC to accept this audit without fear to demonstrate the party’s integrity. Now, the question is redirected at him: What is his current stance on this issue, and what steps is he taking to ensure the audit is implemented?
MITRA and PenjanaKerjaya Fund Scandals
Statistics reveal the following:
RM203 million allocated to MITRA grants from 2019 to 2021, with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) finding that nearly 60% of these funds did not reach the intended beneficiaries.
RM423 million under the Penjana Kerjaya program reportedly misused by various companies and NGOs.
Tan Sri Vikneswaran, the President of MIC, was advised to support the proposed audit to prove that the party is free from misuse of public funds or abuse of power. However, questions remain: Why has MIC not taken steps to initiate a transparent forensic audit?
Accountability: A Priority or Mere Rhetoric?
A forensic audit process is seen as key to restoring public trust in the institutions and leaders involved. The public demands transparency from all parties, including MIC and the Anwar-led government.
Will this promise be fulfilled, or will it remain mere political rhetoric? The people await answers and concrete action to ensure justice is served.
