From the Law Office to the Political Arena: Bawani KS Brings Women’s Voice to N48 State Assembly

AYER KUNING, Tapah — From legal arguments in the courtroom to the national political stage, Bawani KS steps forward as a female candidate challenging the status quo in the Ayer Kuning N48 by-election (PRK).

As a lawyer and partner at the legal firm Tetuan Bawani Nur, she has long been recognised as a champion of the people’s rights. Yet, her bold move to leave the comfort of her professional career and enter the political arena showcases Bawani KS’s extraordinary courage in fighting for the voice of the people, especially women.

Armed with dual degrees — in Psychology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Law from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) — Bawani brings a rare blend of knowledge and experience to the race. As the Deputy Secretary-General of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and Chairperson of FSM Perak, she has long been active in grassroots movements and the fight for social justice.

Facing two other formidable candidates in this by-election, Bawani remains undaunted. Instead, she sees this contest as a platform to prove that women are capable of driving significant change in the country’s political landscape.

“As a woman, I want to break the perception that politics is only for men. Women, too, can be agents of change, bringing an honest and genuine voice of the people into the state assembly,” Bawani asserted during a campaign session with voters in Ayer Kuning.

Her campaign focuses on direct engagement with local communities, from small plantations to nearby towns. She highlights key issues such as the rights of plantation workers, access to education, and the welfare of women and B40 families.

Bawani KS’s brave step into politics not only reflects the strength of women in leadership but also serves as an inspiration for the younger generation, especially women, to step out of their comfort zones and become catalysts for change in society.
