PETALING JAYA: The Madani government remains strong despite the exit of Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad from the Cabinet, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

In a written parliamentary reply, Anwar said the government still enjoys “solid support” from all component parties that make up the current administration.

“Close cooperation and mutual respect among these parties form the foundation for continued governance and the implementation of the reform agenda,” he said.

Anwar said Rafizi and Nik Nazmi’s resignations were personal decisions they made based on their respective principles, and the government respected these decisions.

He also expressed confidence that both Rafizi and Nik Nazmi, the Pandan and Setiawangsa MPs, respectively, would continue to serve the public and contribute actively as members of Parliament to the nation’s progress.

Anwar was responding to a question from Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) on the Cabinet’s stability following the resignations of Rafizi and Nik Nazmi.

Claiming that the PKR duo’s exit created the perception that the government was “now unstable and losing public confidence”, Shahidan also questioned whether the term “unity government” was still relevant.

Rafizi and Nik Nazmi resigned from their Cabinet posts after losing the PKR deputy president and vice-president’s posts, respectively, in the party elections in May.

Rafizi was the former economy minister while Nik Nazmi held the natural resources and environmental sustainability portfolio.
