The Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia has launched a RM1 million Winter Emergency Aid Appeal to alleviate the worsening humanitarian crises in Gaza and Syria, where millions face life-threatening conditions amidst harsh winter weather.
Winter Brings Additional Threat to the People of Gaza and Syria
In a statement on Tuesday, GPM CEO Syahrir Azfar Saleh said the winter season poses an additional threat to the people of Gaza and Syria. He stated that thousands of families, particularly children and the elderly, are exposed to freezing temperatures with insufficient shelter and basic supplies.
Urgent Aid Needed to Save Lives
"Without urgent aid, more lives are at risk. This initiative aims to provide blankets and winter clothing, heaters and fuel, food supplies and medical kits," he said in the statement.
GPM Personnel to Embark on Mission to Syria and Gaza
GPM personnel are scheduled to embark on a mission to Syria on January 15, 2025, while aid for Gaza will be directly managed by GPM Gaza Manager, Dr Tareq al-Talmas, who is currently on-site.
