Gunmen, believed to be members of the separatist group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have attacked the Amegu Nkalaha community in southeastern Nigeria’s Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi state, resulting in the deaths of 10 people and displacement of many others.
Police Confirm Attack and Investigation
According to police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu, the attackers set fire to several homes and destroyed properties, with several houses also being burnt selectively in the area. The police were quick to respond to the incident, drafting operatives to the area to maintain normalcy.
"We are currently investigating the incident while normalcy has returned to the area," Ukandu said.

Southeastern Nigeria has faced frequent attacks by armed groups, with insecurity in the region also fueled by clashes between herders and farmers. Despite calls for a nationwide ranching system, farmland destruction and killings have persisted.
