Malaysia Suffers Heavy Defeat in 2025 Men’s Indoor Hockey World Cup

Malaysia’s men’s indoor hockey team suffered a crushing 12-4 defeat at the hands of Germany in their opening match of the 2025 Men’s Indoor Hockey World Cup Group B in Porec, Croatia.

German Dominance

Nicolas Proske and Ben Hasbach were the top scorers for Germany, each netting four goals at the Zatika Sports Centre. Paul Dosch, Alec von Schwerin, Anton Boeckel, and Max Silanoglu also chipped in with one goal each for Germany, who are coached by Jan Rabente.

Malaysian Response

Malaysia, under the guidance of coach Rodzhanizam Mat Radzi, managed to score four goals through Abdul Khaliq Hamirin (fourth and 25th minutes), Muhammad Firdaus Omar (11th), and Muhammad Najmi Farizal Jazlan (23rd).

Other Group B Match

In another Group B match, Iran defeated Argentina 5-3.

Upcoming Matches

Malaysia will face Argentina tomorrow and Iran on Thursday (Feb 6).

Coach’s Assessment

Rodzhanizam attributed Malaysia’s heavy defeat to mistakes made by his players. "Facing the Germans, even though we lost by a large margin, our players did well. However, there were a few small mistakes that allowed Germany to score. When we look at the game, it’s not that we can’t play well… Simple mistakes were made, especially in defence," he said in a video clip shared by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) today.
