Violence in Israeli-Occupied West Bank Soars Since Gaza War

Recent Attacks Lead to Increased Tensions

Violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank has soared since the war in Gaza erupted. The latest incidents have resulted in the deaths of three Palestinian rebels, according to the Israeli army, with Palestinian officials confirming that one of the victims was a teenager.

Israeli Military Operations

The Israeli army reported that it killed two rebels in separate "counter-terrorism" raids in the north of the occupied West Bank. The military stated that the two rebels were killed when the Israeli air force struck an "armed terrorist cell" that opened fire at Israeli forces who were conducting a raid in the village of Tammun. Additionally, weapons were confiscated and several wanted individuals were apprehended.

Palestinian Red Crescent Reports

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that its teams had transported the body of an 18-year-old from Tammun who was killed "as a result of shelling", and that five other people were severely injured during the Israeli raid. The body was taken to the Turkish Hospital in the nearby city of Tubas, where the director identified the deceased as Suleiman Qutaishat. Locals in Tammun told AFP that the Israeli army had taken the body of the second person.

Separate Operation in Talouza

The military also reported that its forces killed a rebel "in close-quarter combat" in the village of Talouza, near Nablus, confiscating an AK-47 and arresting one individual. The Red Crescent said it had recovered the body of the 40-year-old man after the incident. Residents in the area identified him as Jaafar Dababshe, who they said was shot dead by Israeli forces in front of his house.

Health Ministry Confirms Deaths

The Ramallah-based Palestinian health ministry confirmed one death in Tammun and another in Talouza. The military said it apprehended several other wanted people across the West Bank during the night.

Violence in the West Bank

Violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank has soared since the war in Gaza erupted on October 7, 2023, after Hamas’s attack on Israel. Israeli troops or settlers have killed at least 821 Palestinians, including some fighters, in the West Bank since the start of the war, according to the Ramallah-based health ministry. Palestinian attacks on Israelis have killed at least 28 people in the West Bank in the same period, according to Israeli official figures. On Monday, three Israelis were killed when gunmen opened fire on a bus and other vehicles in the West Bank, according to medics.

Occupation and its Consequences

Israel has occupied the territory since 1967. The ongoing occupation has led to widespread violence, displacement, and human rights violations, with the latest incidents only adding to the growing tensions in the region.
