Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s official car was involved in a minor accident with a police vehicle on the premises of a hotel in Tokyo early Thursday, with no one injured, according to the Japanese government and Kyodo News.

Accident Details

The incident occurred at around 7:50 am local time, when the prime minister’s car was reversing to park after Ishiba exited the vehicle to attend a breakfast meeting at the hotel. The car hit the police car, resulting in minor scratches to both vehicles.

The accident did not affect the prime minister’s schedule, according to Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi, who addressed a regular press briefing. The incident is the second in recent months involving the prime minister’s official car, following a rear-end collision in December.

Previous Incident

In December, a car dedicated to transporting the prime minister was involved in an accident in the western Japanese prefecture of Tottori. Ishiba and others escaped uninjured when the official vehicle rear-ended a police car at a red light intersection.
